History Begun in 1989 as a feeding centre and a nursery school with five children who had been abandoned by their parents at Kibera fofofo Kianda . The place was a marshy dumpsite that was a haven of thugs a dumping ground for aborted babies .It was a long struggle to reclaim the land which today hosts the best school in Kibera slums. School philosophy The word Soweto means "soma wewe toto" which means go to school and have an education .For the place where the school has been established is a village where children never went to school nor their parents never encouraged them to got to school, why because they thought that they had been marginalized by the government and could not see the reason for sending their children to school. A word from the founder Education is the most precious gift a nation can give to its children ,and a church can give to its members ,whether you live in up market estate ,middle class estate rural areas or even city slums, you need education in order to live and socialize with other people harmoniously. In 1983 after I graduated from Bible College the lord spoke to me about Kibera that I had not known before .When I inquired about Kibera, I was told that it is a slum that is full of thugs, muggers and prostitutes. My school and college mates discouraged me that if I went there I would die a poor man for the rest of my life. I could not listen to them because I new that the one who had spoken to me the (Lord) was faithful and a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.(Heb 11:6) The Place Kibera area is a densely populated populated I could not find enough room for the school the only place that was available was a dumping site where the city council of Nairobi used to dump., The place was full of waste garbage ,aborted babies and all kinds of bones. Children here never went to school there work was to wait for the city council trucks that brought garbage .there were all kind s of used cans that they used for cooking their food. The big ones could knock down the small ones in order to scare them off. The boys could snatch food from the girls because they were helpless. How we started I watched this episode for days. , then the Lord told me to start a feeding centre .We started with five orphaned children that had been abandoned. In the house and the other children form the dump joined. Today when I see boys and girls some young some older and others much younger play in Soweto Academy school compound it is really a dream come true .I thank God for our partners who have always prayed and donated towards this noble cause.
