SOWETO ACADEMY

COVID-19 UPDATE

When the whole world was trying to meet the challenges of how to prevent and protect themselves from the deadly covid-19 virus; the biggest threat in Kibera slum was starvation and clean water. Through prayers and support we have been able to provide food and water for the most vulnerable from 23rd March 2020 up until now. Thank you for supporting Soweto Academy, we still need your prayers and love.

THE SLUMS OF KIBERA

Out of the dump

Kibera is located in Kenya and is less than a 20 minute drive from the capital city of Nairobi. It is considered to be the largest slum in Africa. This is one of the most depressed areas in the world. With no industry, jobs are scarce. Most people do not have homes and live in shelters (as seen in photo) near the dump. It is estimated that more than 2 million people depend on this dump to survive. Children can be seen at any given time scavenging for food or clothing here. Unwanted babies are abandoned in the dump and clean water is scarce.

MINISTERING TO FAMILIES

As with everything we do, we strive to keep Jesus Christ at the center of it all. This was our National Prayer Day Celebration where many of the children brought their parents for a wonderful day of fellowship.

MEETING NEEDS

At Soweto Academy, we are dedicated to changing the community around us. Fundraising is by no means an easy feat, but through generous donations and the leading of the Lord, we have been able to do much! We feed hundreds of children everyday.

CHAMPION VOLLEYBALL TEAM

We are very proud of our championship Volleyball team! Comprised of girls from the slums and financially backed by only our school, they have gone on to compete against government funded schools to win the National Championship!
